HVAC Zoning and its Benefits

HVAC Zoning and Its Benefits

The overwhelming majority of Atlanta-area residents could benefit from choosing HVAC zoning for their homes. Some people will appreciate the cost savings the most, while others will be happy to achieve even, consistent temperatures. Regardless of what exactly piques your interest, we encourage you to consider the benefits of zoning.

What Does Zoning Mean?

HVAC zoning involves the process of dividing up your home into special areas, called zones. Each of these areas are then heated/cooled separately. Each zone is controlled by a separate thermostat. And, and special dampers are installed within your ductwork to control the airflow to each area. By installing a zoning system, you can have control over which rooms get AC or heat and when.

If your home doesn’t have ducts, don’t worry! Ductless units can also be used to create HVAC zones as well. You can accomplish this by installing ductless systems in various parts of your house. Then, you can use those units to heat/cool specific zones. And, by purchasing a special thermostat, you’ll be able to control each zone through a smartphone app or remote.

HVAC Zoning Benefits

Saving Money. HVAC zoning can save energy, which can save you money. Since zoning eliminates the constant need to adjust the thermostat, you’ll save energy. If you have a multi-story house, you can heat and cool each level separately. And, if you rarely use certain zones, you can significantly reduce the air flowing to them. The better you can manage your HVAC, the lower your utility bills will be.

Increasing Comfort. Zoning can also improve your and your family’s comfort. You can heat certain parts of the house for those family members who are always cold, or you can also reduce the heat going to areas that get extra heat from the sun. You have many different options and several ways you can use zoning to keep you and your family comfortable.

Cleaner Air. Finally, HVAC zoning can dramatically improve the air quality indoors. Unlike traditional systems, HVACs with zoning systems cycle air through a specific zone only. This means that if allergens and contaminants enter one zone, you can get rid of them without them being deposited through the rest of the house.

HVAC UV Lights for Your Home

HVAC UV Lights Kill Off Bacteria and Germs

Concerned with the germs, allergens and bacteria that are floating around your home? Does your indoor air quality (IAQ) always get worse during the cooler months? If you’re on a mission to improve the air quality inside your home, consider installing a UV light. HVAC UV lights can kill off bacteria, germs, and several other harmful particulates before can they enter your home.

All our clients want to know that HVAC UV lights actually work before they have them installed. We’re here to provide you with evidence supporting UV lights, show you what’s available, and what their benefits are.

Scientific Support for HVAC UV Lamps

The effectiveness of UV lights and their uses have been studied for decades. Studies show that UV lights can successfully kill off bacteria and other germs. UV lights have been used to kill off harmful viruses, mold and bacteria for well over 100 years. Hospitals, hotels, restaurants, airlines and more continue to use them to sterilize equipment and the air you breathe.

Regarding UV lights and HVAC systems, this study provides evidence supporting their use to kill a variety of airborne particulates. These studies are 2 of many. When you install an HVAC UV light, you can rest-assured they will improve the quality of your home’s air.

Who Should Use Ultraviolet Lights?

Everyone can reap the benefits of using HVAC UV lights; some individuals more than others. If you have a compromised immune system or suffer from COPD, asthma or allergies, you should consider installing UV lights.

Residential UV Lamps

All residential HVAC systems either use coil cleaning UV lights or air cleaning UV lights. There are several different terms that companies use to describe these lights: sterilizing, sanitizing, purifying, etc. But, all residential HVAC UV lights fall into one of these two categories.

Air Cleaning HVAC Lights

Air purifying UV lights only turn on when your HVAC kicks on. They are designed to kill bacteria and other particulates that are in the air before they enter your home. These lights are housed within your home’s air ducts.

Coil Cleaning HVAC UV Lights

Coil purifying lights, on the other hand, are always on. They are housed near your indoor evaporator coil and focus on keeping your HVAC’s coils free of bacteria and mold. This is the type of HVAC UV light that most homeowners choose.

More Benefits to Using UV Lights

Other than improving your home’s IAQ, UV lights have several other benefits. They can increase your energy-efficiency, lower your energy bills, make your air fresher and improve your home’s airflow.

Should you get maintenance on your HVAC System

Schedule Heating and Cooling Maintenance

The Neese team strongly encourages our clients to adhere to an HVAC maintenance schedule. By having semi-annual maintenance performed on your system, you can make it last much longer. You can also make sure your system is in good shape ahead of the winter and summer months.

There are several reasons why we suggest HVAC maintenance, but some are certainly worth highlighting here. We’ve put together this list of the biggest reasons why you should have your HVAC system routinely serviced.

Benefits of Routine HVAC Maintenance

  • Guaranteed Comfort. If your HVAC system isn’t properly maintained, it will have a hard keeping your home’s temperatures and humidity right where you want it. When your system is properly serviced, it’ll heat/cool your home better. This means you and your family will enjoy year-round comfort at home.
  • Improved Air Quality. Routine HVAC maintenance can also help you breathe better. During a maintenance appointment, your tech will examine and clean/replace the air filter. They will also check to see if there are any issues with the filter compartment. These checks and tasks will make sure your system filters out dirt, dust, and allergens before they enter your home.
  • Safety First. When a system isn’t properly maintained, it can become hazardous to operate. During your maintenance appointment, we’ll perform the checks and tasks necessary to keep you and your family safe.
  • Money Savings. Having your system routinely serviced can save you money in three primary ways:
    • Longer Lifespan. Well-serviced systems undergo less wear and tear, meaning they’ll last longer.
    • Fewer Major Repairs. We’ll look for and fix issues while they’re still small. When we can catch problems early, we can save you money on costly repairs.
    • Lower Your Bills. Healthy HVAC systems are also much more energy efficient. This, in turn, will lower your energy bills. During your appointment, we will:
      • Lubricate all moving parts
      • Test the system’s airflow
      • Examine your ductwork
      • Clean or change the air filter
      • Tighten all loose connections
      • Test your thermostat’s calibration
      • Test your system’s controls
Schedule Your Next Maintenance Appointment Today!

August 1, 2025Diego and Angel showed up promptly at 8:30 am and were very polite, friendly and professional. They worked quietly all day removing my old HVAC and installing the new one. By 4 pm they were done and we were enjoying the bliss of cold air once again pouring out of our air ducts. They up after themselves and left little sign they were here (other than a new quiet HVAC unit). Great Job Diego and Angel.July 2025AC not working on main. Called Neese after hours and had Clayton the tech here 1st thing in the morning. Claton was super friendly and quickly diagnosed the problem with my 20+ year old unit (leaking coolant). We quickly determined it was not worth fixing at this point.2 hours later, Rick Harris (sales/cooling consultant) arrived and who we worked with 6 years ago. He quickly provided us options for replacing the unit. Since we have worked with Neese and Rick before we agreed to replace the units with something very similar they provided us 6 years ago for the other floor. Costs have gone up a tremendous amount in 6 years so Rick did the best he could to help with the costs (we did not need a lot of add-on features to keep costs down). In 2 days, Aug 1, we will get a new unit installed and warranted for 10 years.March 2025David was here to perform Spring tuneup. Arrived on time, very polite, efficient and was in and out in less than 1 hour. Always a pleasure to have the Neese team here.October 2024:Axel was here to perform annual Fall service (and he was here in the Spring for summer prep/maintenance). Wonderful, polite and very professional. Always a positive experience. We can easily rest knowing our systems are well cared for and maintained after each Neese Jones visit (and their excellent team).March 2023Keith was here again to perform my spring service (and he was here in November for the Fall service). SUPER GUY, very friendly, very courteous. Was able to come early and called ahead to make sure it was okay. Did a great job, and I was able to continue with my conference calls without concern or interruption. Provided a great update before he left. We will continue to use Neese Jones!Spring 2022McKennley was here today to provide spring inspection and service. He arrived early and called ahead to confirm that was okay. Like the other staff at Neese Jones, Mack was super friendly and very polite. He was quite a bit faster than the other technicians that were here but assured me all was tested and working properly. He did clean the outside units and was on his way to the next customer in 30 minutes from start to finish.Fall 2021Keith was here today to provide my fall maintenance / check up. Super friendly, polite and courteous as always. Appeared to do a thorough inspection and all seemed to be in order. No issues or repairs and told me to call if anything seems out of sorts, otherwise he will be back in the spring.Spring 2021David performed my service today and was excellent, professional and above all, personable. I continue to recommend Neese Jones as they are head and shoulders above the others I have used and I never feel cheated and scammed. I enjoy having them at my home and trust them. Sort of like having a friend come help you out.Spring 2020:Today Russel of Neese Jones arrived at my house on time and performed my spring inspection and service of my two HVAC units. He was extremely courteous, personable, professional and attentive of the Corona Virus preventive measures when visiting my home. Equally important, Russel was very efficient and professional when performing the technical inspection and service of my units. I continue to be very happy with Neese Jones and their staff and look forward to them continuing to keep my HVAC systems in top working order.

We were having our routine systems check done and asked Russell to take a peek at our basement system as it hasn’t been beeping up with this heat wave. He agreed to do a thorough investigation into what was causing the issue and discovered a sizable refrigerant leak. After discussing possible “fixes” (which just would have prolonged the necessary replacement of the system), he recommended before we make a decision, that we discuss the pros and cons of repair/replacement and pricing with a comfort advisor. All in all, he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, right on time, worked efficiently and polite and respectful.

First off, Hands down the best there is! Pricing is spot on, the work is clean and timing is incredibly efficient. Our AC broke, of course during a dangerous heat wave. Calling and having different companies come and look at it. These guys were spot on! Talk about great customer service and fantastic employees! They are top notch! Will not upsell, over sell or any of the like. They are honest, affordable, and really great people! It's so nice to find that kind of service that doesn't rip you off! seriously. If you are in dire straits, these people don't feed on desperation. ( capitalizing on your desperation) Its refreshing! definitely a go to company for your needs.

Great company and service!! I used them last year to replace an old unit after getting quotes from 3 different companies. I have a mtce plan with them and used them recently to replace another old unit. They came out right away when I called about old unit not working properly and gave me options for fixing/replacing. I chose to replace and they came out next day. Very professional. Highly recommend.

We used Neese to put in a new HVAC system into our Atlanta condo. We had an emergency situation and Neese handled every aspect in a timely and professional manner. Russ came out within hours of the problem on Tuesday afternoon. Joey came out the next morning and quoted a new unit and Kyle and Armando installed the new unit on Friday morning. This team of professionals also got the unit onto the roof of the condo without having to utilize a crane. Brett and I were so impressed with this team who helped us from start to finish.

Neese Jones is the best! They are always, prompt, professional, and courteous. I’ve been a loyal customer for more than 20 years. They do my Spring and Fall tune ups.I’ve never felt they were upselling me. About 5 years ago my 28 year old AC unit finally died. You know who I chose to do the replacement. My tech, Jeremy , is great! I would strongly recommend them over any of the “big box” retailers.

We’ve been using Neese since the late 1980’s when they were Neese-Jones. Our longtime contractor used them so we did too and have continued over the past 35 years. Always been happy with the service they provide. We’ve especially been happy with our service with Logan Peters and Rick Harris’s advice.

I saw their reviews (that I normally take with a grain of salt) but they really lived up to them so I am giving them a full 5 stars! David was very pleasant and knowledgeable so I asked for him to comeback when ever I get my next service. Also it was a nice fact that I called at 8am and they were here at 12 that same day. Great job
